Thailand, South Korea hold rail transport collaboration meeting in Bangkok
Bangkok, 6 September 2016 – A rail transport collaboration meeting was held by both the Thai and South Korean delegates in Bangkok on 2 September 2016, in an effort to seek business collaboration and strengthen relations among rail professionals in the two countries.
Rail leaders and professionals from major railway businesses and organisations in Thailand and South Korea including Thailand’s Ministry of Transport, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), Thailand Railway Technology Development Institute Project (TRTDI), Korea Railway Association (KORASS), the Ministry of land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), Korea Railroad Technical Corporation (KRTC), Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) all participated in the meeting.
During discussions, the TRTDI proposed the establishment of a track test facility centre, whose main focus would be to conduct research in light rail projects under the management of Thailand’s National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA).
They also touched on the Thai – South Korean cooperation regarding academic knowledge, human resource development, technology transfer as well as the presentation of the feasibility study of the North East-West Corridor Railway project in Thailand. South Korea delegates also presented their latest railway technology in an effort to entice their Thai counterparts to choose their technology for projects in the pipeline and in the future.
